Lee County Real Estate and the Oil Spill

Many are wondering, "Will the oil spill come to Lee County"? If I only had a crystal ball. I can not tell the future, but I can tell you what is happening now.

It appears at this time, we are avoiding the catastrophe. While Lee County Emergency Operations Center has been a little quiet about the spill, Collier County (just south of us) has issued this statement:

"We have NO indicators of any potential impact for Collier County. Loop current and wind patterns continue to keep the spill well away from Southwest Florida." said Dan Summers, Collier County Bureau of Emergency Services Director. "We continue to conduct appropriate readiness planning, but have no indicators of any immediate concern for Collier County at the present time."

Lee, Charlotte, or Collier is not included in any Disaster Declarations/Assistance by government entities or British Petroleum. Theories on the oil spill trajectories are primarily based on the currents in the Gulf. Thankfully, these currents may help to protect our Southwest Florida coastline. (The Loop Current, The Florida Current, and the Gulf Stream)

Right now, the beaches are clean and beautiful. Most hotels and resorts in the area are offering a money back guarantee for folks considering summer travel to Southwest Florida. Lee County Tourism has asked for $1,000,000 from BP to promote our beaches. If you want to check on Lee County beach conditions go to Floridashealth.com

Our Lee County Real Estate market is still chugging along. We have buyers, we are having showings on our listings. So far, so good.
